Ashley County was formed November 30, 1848 and was organized from Chicot, Union and Drew Counties. Hamburg is the county seat. Ashley County is named for Chester Ashley (1790-1848). Check out Jim Shell's Evolution of Ashley County for historical maps of the county through the years.
