John T. Mason
I photographed this Woodman of the World marker at the Old Florence Church Cemetery in August 2009. The cemetery is located in the pasture of John Parker in the Pine Hill community near Selma. This is the headstone of John T. Mason, a member of the Old Florence Presbyterian Church. There is supposed to be a slave cemetery outside the white cemetery, but the graves were never marked. The church disbanded in the 1930’s, and the cemetery is overgrown.

Gladys & Gilford Myhand
This is a double headstone marking the graves of two children of T. J. (or maybe J. J.) and Katie Mason. The children, Gilford and Gladys died at about one and two years of age respectively. The Masons were some of the charter members of the Old Florence Church

Sarah & Ed Preston Mason
This is another double headstone that is very difficult to read. These are Mason children. I can make out “Children of ?. C. and (?). E. Mason. The children are Sarah Catherine who died July 9(?), 1882. I cannot make out her birth date. Next to Sarah is her brother, Ed Preston, b. July 15, 1877, and died September 10, 1882 at 15 years of age. Perhaps the young Mason’s perished in some epidemic of disease. In the membership roster of the Old Florence Church, there is a Newton C. Mason and an R. E. Mason. Sarah C. is listed in the membership roster, but her brother is not. Look closely and notice the top of the stone that depicts a kitten on a tree branch.
