Home of Jackson Y. ERWIN and family (wife
Judith Ann Jeter). Their home was near the county court house. It burned after the death of Jackson Y. Erwin (1907). Jackson Y. Erwin was the son of John A. and Priscilla L. ERWIN (both their last names were ERWIN - they were cousins). He
was born 1844 in Marshall Co. MS and died Jan. 9, 1907 in Monticello, Drew
Co., AR.
His wife was Judith Ann Jeter (also born in Mississippi). They were married in Drew Co. in 1871. Their children were: Willie F. Erwin (married
Wm. Pierce) ; Orion Clyde Erwin (married Cyrus Dowden) ; Bertie Jackson Erwin
(never married) and Jackson Erwin Jr. (died young).
School Photo from Spring Hill, Drew Co.,
ARK circa 1900.
William Hockett ERWIN is the young boy standing in the second from the
top row and to the left of the girl on the far right on that row. He's
just below the young man in the top row who has on the turtle neck sweater
has the mustache. I haven't a clue where this school house must
have been. I hope someone can identify the place and the other people.
My grandfather, William Hockett ERWIN (son of John A. and Henrietta Isadora
Jane "called Dora" Morgan ERWIN) was born 1891 in Yell Co., Ark. In
the 1900 census he was living in Drew Co. AR with his father and stepmother
(Ella Appleberry) in the Springhill Twp. and with his two brothers (Claude
b: 1883 and O'donnel b: 1889) and his sister (Eva b: 1894). William
Hockett ERWIN would have been about 8 - 10 yrs old when this picture was
taken. I don't know the exact year it was taken. There is no
writing on the picture, but he was identified in the picture (to me) by one
of my aunts. I don't think any of the older boys were his brothers,
but I'm not sure.
