municipal elections held here yesterday resulted as
follows: For mayor, E. N. Wilson; for aldermen, J. T.
Beard, J. R. Quinney, J. A. Shirey, S. M. Davis, R. F.
Powers; for recorder, W. T. Thompson; for treasurer,
S. W. Wheless.
Wilson & Hurley, dating from 1891, is a consolidation
of E. N. Wilson, grocer, and of J. F. Hurley, grocer,
both of whom began at this place in 1890. As
authority in the premises they come under two heads,
that which applies to the country, Mr. Wilson before
his advent in this trade having been engaged in
farming, and that which applies to the morals of the
place, Mr. Hurley, though a young man, being at the
head of the Christian Endeavor movement which
flourishes wonderfully here at Warren. This is
exclusive of their business opportunity. Mr. Hurley
in particular being an intelligent hustler who makes
and keeps friends, while Mr. Wilson is the "heavy
weight" compensating balance of the firm. They do a
business which upon the whole aggregates $12,000 to
$15,000 annually. Mr. Hurley is from Monticello, this
State, and has been identified with Warren three
years. Mr. Wilson is from Georgia, and before coming
here had lived in an adjoining county [more likely
Drew Co.!!] thirty years.

"Small Pox at Wilmar. Small Pox has broken out in Wilmar.
Thirteen cases were reported there Saturday morning, all
white. It is supposed to have been brought to Wilmar from
Blissville. A later report, Monday morning
which came direct from Dr. Nelson gave the number of
cases as 22 or 23.
There were two deaths Sunday night. Levi Wilson,
a brother of L.B.Wilson
of this place, and a man well known and highly
esteemed here, and a 12
year old boy Will Staley. The deaths would seem
to indicate that the
disease is of a malignant type. "
