MURPH- I am looking for information on a Jacob Astor MURPH. He married
Christiana DODD in Layfayette County in 1865. They had three children,
Hugh MURPH, May Lois MURPH, and J.D.MURPH. I would like to obtain their
date of marriage and if one of both died in Layfayette. Jacob is my ggggrandfather.
I have no information on when he died or where he is buried. Any information
on Jacob, or any other MURPHS, would be great.

I am looking for ANYTHING on the (African-American)MCCOWAN family of
(Lewisville) Lafayette Co., an area where many descendents of James (Jack)
MCCOWAN (b. 05/1855) and his wife(ves)(name[s]unknown) still reside. James
had 8-9 children, two of whom are Everett (Ev) and Thomas (Tom).Thomas's
first(?) marriage to Margaret ALLEN produced 5-6 children, including Tina
and Jack(b.11/27/14). Jack is my grandfather. With his second wife, Hazel
GREEN (b.06/01/25 of Hope and Little Rock,dau of Benny and Lula MOORE GREEN),Jack
had 11 children. His 4th child,Jack Jr(b.04/30/50, California)is my father.
My grandfather's first marriage (wife's name unknown) produced one child,
a boy named Jerry. If you are at all related to these men,their wives,
their siblings, and/or their wives siblings, or if you are able to fill
in any of my blanks, please contact me asap. Most of my living relatives
are very elderly and aren't able to help much. Please note that MCCOWAN
is the way my branch of the family spells our name. On birth,death,marriage,

SHUFLIN - 1870 LaFayette County Census, Red River Township, Rondo Post
Office lists R. W. PRICE age 74 b. in Virginia; wife Elizabeth (REEVES)
SHUFFLIN PRICE age 44 b. in Kentucky; her sons Thomas SHUFLIN, age 22 and
Henry SHUFLIN age 19. Henry SHUFLIN is my ggrandfather. His family stayed
in the Rondo area until the early 1900's. Would like to know what happened
to Thomas SHUFLIN. Elizabeth PRICE is buried in Rondo Cemetery, but I have
been unable to locate a cemetery listing.
CLARK/GARRET
James H. CLARK and Mary D. (Mollie) GARRET are found in the 1880 federal
census living in Lagrange township. Two young children are listed with
them: Sammie, age 4; and Elijah, age 2. James was born Apr. 1853 in Arkansas
and Mary was born in Feb. 1855 in TN. They were married in November of
1875. Mary's brother Winfield S. GARRET married his wife, Roxana COLEMAN
on the same day in Lafayette county. (They lived next to each other according
to the census records.) If anyone has these two surnames connecting in
their family line in this part of the world and time period, please let
us know. We are looking for the next generation back, of course. James
and Mary CLARK later moved to Little River county and had several more
children.

Found in LaGrange township in 1880: James H. CLARK b. April 1853 in
AR, Mary D. (Mollie) GARRET CLARK b. Feb. 1855 in TN; married Nov. 4, 1875.
Children: Samuel Clark b. 1876, Elijah Clark b. 1888 (did not live to adulthood)
This family later was listed in Little River county, AR with the following
children: Samuel, Booker P., Roland G., Luther, Bynim, Hercules, Virgi
L. (ca. 1900) Also found in LaGrange township in 1880: Winfield S(cott?)
GARRET(T) -- possibly GARRAT in McNairy county, TN -- b. 1853 in TN, Roxana
(Roxie) COLEMAN GARRET(T) b. 1854, married Nov. 4, 1875 in LaGrange township.
Marriage found right next to James and Mollie CLARK's entry and this couple
lived next door to them as well -- according to the 1880 US census. Have
next to no information on parents of GARRETs or CLARKs. Can anyone help?

I am interested in receiving information on Thomas Stainback who was
listed as an overseer in Lafayette County in the 1860 Census. I believe
him to be the son of Sterling Stainback and Maria F. (Owens) Patty of Madison
County, Ala. He also served for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
