CONWAY/HENDERSON/POSTON/THOMPSON/WARNER
My 2 gg grandfather, Jeremiah POSTON, lived in Claiborne Parish, LA in late 1820's and 1830. He died Jan 1836 in Lafayette County, ARK. Did he moved or did the boundary line between Louisiana and Arkansas get moved about this time? He owned a large plantation, over 1000 acres, at Long Praire. His brother, Richard POSTON, built the first log jail at Chickanenny, ARK. Where are these places located in Lafayette County? He was a neighbor and friend of John Sevier CONWAY of Walnut Hill, who became the first governor of ARK. Also, believed that he worked with CONWAY as a surveyor and died while thus employed, from injuries. Need proof of this. His widow, Salenah, remarried in 1837 to Franklin J. WARNER and had two daughters by him. 1840 census they were living in Red River TWP, Lafayette Co, ARK. Where was Red River TWP? 1850, she was living in LaGrange TWP with married daughter, Selina, wife of Andrew THOMPSON, schoolmaster. Would like to communicate with anyone with knowledge of this area while still a Territory. Kathy MOCK

In researching my Hardcastle line, I have been sent a copy of a marriage license. It is not for anyone in my direct line and so I'm not sure if these people are family or not. However, if someone out there knows the people named and would like a copy of this license, please let me know and I'll get it to you. The license is for M.C. Hardcastle of Hurricane Hill, county of Lafayette, age 20, and Miss Sallie Tatum of Hurricane Hill, county of Lafayette, age 17. It was signed Nov. 21, 1883. I'm not sure of the spellings of the names, but that is at least close.

Hi; I kinda of have a dilemma here; I have part of a document that states a marriage certificate was issued to ELIJAH and ANNA G.HUFF; in Boyd; Carpenter county. I have talked to both county clerks and neither has the slightest idea of a Carpenter county? Maybe you can shed some light on this or point me in the right direction! Thank You, Dwight

HUGHES/SMITH
I am researching E.B. Hughes and his wife Bertha Smith(Hughes) who lived on a farm near Okolona in the 1920s and 1930s. Bertha's father was Frank Smith. I have an obituary of her death that only lists her as Mrs. Frank Smith, so a first name for her would be helpful. I don't know anything about E.B. or his parents. Bertha was my grandmother who lived with us when I was young in Texarkana, but E.B. died before I was born. Anything you can come up with would be helpful. Thanks.

MOSS/SMITH
I need someone to look up in Lafayette Co. for the possible marriage of William Frank MOSS (or F. W. MOSS) and Ella Lee SMITH, ~1891-93. Miss SMITH lived in Columbia Co., but there is no record of their marriage there. They had one child, William Frank MOSS, Jr., b. 1893. Soon after, F. W. MOSS, Sr. died probably of pneumonia. But we know not where. Ella Smith MOSS then married Richard Rufus BARTON (F. W. Sr.'s good friend), soon moving to Howard Co. The only thing else that we know is that F. W. Sr. had a brother, N. C. (or H. C.) MOSS, from (or living in) Atlanta (which might be in Arkansas, Texas, or Georgia, or.......) Thanks for any help.

ATKISSON/MITCHELL/TAYLOR
Trying to trace my TAYLOR tree. According to a letter my mother received in 1961 this family moved to Arkansas around 1850 and settled near Garfield. At that time a Ben Taylor still lived there. That letter indicated that my gggrandfather Edmund William TAYLOR (1827-1898) and his wife Sarah (1830-1912) were buried in the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Also buried there were his brother Garland H. TAYLOR and his wife Nancy. A son James E. TAYLOR (1866-1939) was buried there too. According to that letter, Sarah's family MITCHELL also moved to Garfield from TN. My ggrandfather Thomas Lee TAYLOR was born in Garfield 3 Jul 1873 and he married Rachel Mahala ATKISSON on 4 Dec 1898. Her family is suppose to be from that area too. Will be glad to share current information with anyone who can help with these families. Kathi Wilson, Fallon, NV

MILLER/MULKEY
MULKEY, Philip M., Jr., b. abt 1830, Lafayette Co. M. Catharine MULKY in Lafayette Co. in 1840s; they had a son, George W. in 1848. By 1850, Catharine had died, and Philip was living with George W. in the household of Elijah and Jane (McAdam) MULKEY in Johnson Co. I believe Philip M. was the son of James MULKEY, brother of Elijah, and both were sons of Philip MULKEY and Margaret MILLER, who were in Lafayette Co. by the 1820s. Glad to exchange.

They stayed in Cass County until about 1905 when they moved to Cleveland County, Oklahoma. Amalia was married at least two time. Her Husbands were John Marion Judge Penny and Luther Espy or Espey. She may have also married a Jordan. Does anyone know anything about this lady? Thanks. Lonnie Morris - Norman, Oklahoma

ROACH
Per 1860 Census, my ggrandfather, James Henry ROACH and family lived in LaGrange Township, Lewisville, Lafayette County. His wife at that time, Margaret A. or E. ROACH, age 30, born in AL, does not reappear in the 1870 census; instead James Henry ROACH's wife then (spouse 2) is Melvina ROACH and they live in LA. Spouse 1, Margaret ROACH, may have died in Lafayette County. Would someone advise if there exists a cemetery inventory for Lafayette County, or what "LaGrange Township" would mean in relation to Lewisville, so that I could visit cemeteries in the appropriate area for a search? (I live about 1-2 hrs away in LA.) Thank you in advance.

MORTON
I am reasearching my family and traced them back to Lafayette Co, AR. the names are as follows. Heartwell Morton bn 1840, AL m. Rhoda Allen bn 1844, MS. This is my 4th. generation grandfather and i have found them on the 1860 and the 1870 census's for this county. i am trying to make a connection to an Alexander Morton (bn 1816, TN) also in this county. I think this may be Heartwells father but have no way of confirming it. The dates and all seem to match up as well as their proximity to each other in the area. James Alexander is the son of Heartwell, so i thought the name might be a family name passed on down. Would you have any other info on this family. or could you pass it on to the querie page on the genweb project. i will summarize below:
1860 census; Beach Township, Rondo post office. dwelling number 611 Alexander Morton bn (bn 1816, Tn) m. Eliza E. (bn 1811, London England) children listed: Joseph S. 23 yrs old, William D., Mary E., James A., Joseph S., listed as 16years old, Samuel C., Benjamin ?., Martha E., A. T . (F), Daniel O..
first 5 children brn in Alabama. all others in mississippi.
1860 Census Red River Township Rondo post office, Dwelling 619 Heartwell E. Morton (bn 1840, AL ) m. Rhoda(e) Allen bn 1844, MS. Children listed James Alexander.
Any help you could provide would be a great benifit. i am willing to share all info i have and find.
