The annual A.E.A. Convention - November 3-4 in LIttle Rock. On Thursday night after the general meeting, Mr. Franks, Reo Flaherty (principal of high school), Mildred Franks, Pauline Smith and I were on our way back to Ashdown in Mr. Frank's car. Mr. Flaherty was driving. We, on the back seat, were so tired that we went to sleep - - when Mr. Franks insisted on driving, we all woke up. Soon we stopped at a place where our chauffeurs could get some coffee!
"Miss" Artie -- 6th grade teacher -- retired at the end of school in May.

Open House honoring "Miss" Artie Cooper was held at the Ashdown High School on Sunday, October 29, 1961 from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. She had taught in Ashdown Elementary School for many years -- the first year was 1921-1922 (she was Miss Artie Rhodes. Several years later she married Arbia Cooper.)

Mrs. Verda Coulter, fifth grade teacher, retired at the end of May.
The 1962-63 school year was the last year for Wilton to be a wing school. After that year the Wilton teacher, Theara King, began teaching in the Ashdown Elementary School.

Ben Lomond was the only wing school left. Faye Tiffin was the teacher.
On Friday, November 22, 1963 -- while we were having a meeting in the principal's office before 1:00 p.m., we received word that President John F. Kennedy had just been killed while riding in a motorcade in Dallas!
Mr. Tom Moak, photographer, made group pictures for the first time on the stage in the auditorium. The pictures were still in black and white.

1964-1965 was the last year to have school in the building, which was built in 1915. Construction on a new building was begun in early 1965 on the east side of the campus and was completed by the time school started in August 1965. I have many fond memories of teaching twenty years in the same room in that building. I enjoyed the fellowship with the other personnel and teaching all those second graders.
The pictures made on the stage by Mr. Moak were in color!
