| 1/3/2001 | Cleo Katy Phillips, age 84, of Smithville, OK, passed away Wednesday, Jan, January 3, 2001, in Mena.
She was born November 24, 1916, in Westview, AR, to the late hiram and the late Alma Meeks Barton. On February 3, 1936, she was united in marriage to Roy Lee Phillips in Smithville, OK. She worked at the Renova Shirt Factory. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Free Holiness Church in Smithville, Ok. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
Survivors include: son, Buck and his wife, Mary Lou Phillips of Watson, OK; daughters, Jean Carter of Smithville, OK,and Wanda and her husband, Al Tunnell of Smithville, OK;
sisters, Serena Tollett of North Little Rock, AR and Clara Gentry of McComb, OR; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hazel Phillips of Smithville, OK.
Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy Phillipsand her sister, Jewell Beck.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 6, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Smithville Assembly of god Church with Brother Don Vaughn officiating. Burial followed in the Smithville Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.
Pallbearers were David Mize, Jeff Denton, Kevin Carter, Ricky Phillips, Shane Hudson, Stacy Nichols, and Mike Carter. Honorary pallbearers were John Larucci, Harvey Gross, Aaron Tunnell and Brandon Falls. Contributed by Carmiel Alred |

Funeral services for Smithville resident Hazel Phillips, 86, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Smithville Assembly of God. Jeff Mattox and Billy Dunahoo will officiate. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home , Mena, Ark.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p..m. today at the funeral home.
Phillips died Friday at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Nov. 15, 1915, at McCurtain to Richard Howard and Linnnie Williams Howard.
She married Robert Lee Phillips Dec. 23, 1935, at Smithville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1995. A homemaker, she was a member of Smithville Assembly of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Young, Smithville, Betty Smith, Broken Bow, and Margie Johnson, Watson; two brothers, Ronald Howard, Salem, Ore., and Bill Howard of Texas; three sisters, Florence Howard, Oklahoma city, Mildred Brown, Smithville, and Dovie Stinson, Hatfield, Ark.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

| Date Unknown | Mrs. Willie Bell Phillips, 78, of Smithville, Okla., died Monday in a local nursing home. She was born June 7, 1907 in Leedey, Okla. Funeral service was held Thursday afternoon at 2 in the Octavia Baptist Church with the Rev.. Robert J. Thomasson and Rev. Ed Rogers officiating. Interment was in the Smithville Cemetery under the direction of Geyer-Quillen Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Johnny Phillips, Tommy Phillips, Anthony Phillips, Kerry Phillips, Joel Phillips, Scott Medders, Rudy Barnes, and Billy Hooper. Mrs. Phillips was the daughter of the late John Webb and the late Mrs. Meda White Webb. and was united in marriage to Melvin Phillips August 30, 1928 at Idabel, Okla. He preceded her in deathAugust 11, 1976. She had lived in Smithville since 1933 and was a Baptist. Survivors are one son, Edgel Phillips, Octavia, Okla.,; one daughter, Mrs. Floy Smith, Smithville, Okla.; two brothers, Cecil Webb, Harrison, Wilson Webb, sweet Home, Oreg.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. |
| 6/23/2000 | Jerry Dean Pittman, 64, of Watson, OK, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000 at his home.
He was bornJuly 2, 1935 in Horatio, AR..Pittman was the son of the late Joel Pittman and the late Opal Parish. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Johnson on March 4, 1960 in Horatio, AR.
He made his home in Watson for the past 40 years, was a retired rancher, and a member of the Free Holiness Church of Watson.
Survivors include wife, Mary Ann Pittman of Watson, OK; one daughter and son-in-law, Deana and Jeff Burnett of Watson, OK; one grandson, Brennan Burnett of Watson, OK; two sisters, Jessie Chandler of Mississippi, Judy Dison of Ashdown, AR; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Opal Pittman; one brother, Gerald "Tuffy" Pittman and two sisters, Josie Poole and Johnnie Pittman.
Funeral services were held at 2p.m. Monday, June 26, in the Smithville Assembly of God Church with Bro. Lindell Birdsong and Bro. J.M. Baggs officiating. Interment was in the Watson Cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena. Contributed by Carmiel Alred |

Bennie Pollard, 61, of Watson, Okla. died Tuesday in a Ft. Smith hospital. He was born June 10, 1923 at Watson.
Funeral service was held Friday afternoon at 2 inthe Sulphur Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Louis WAlker officiating. Interment was in the Watson Cemetery under the direction of Geyer-Quillin Funeral home.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Johnson, Jerry Pittman, Rodney Smith, Larry Youngblood, David Toon, and Bill Nipper.
Bennie was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs.Jim Pollard, and was united in marriage to Miss Virginia Knudsen on November 3, 1951 at Superior, Montana. He had lived most of his life at Watson and was a Baptist. He had worked in the mines and was a timber worker. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Pollard, Watson, Okla.; four sons, Kenneth Pollard, Spiro, Okla., Richard Pollard, Crown Point, Ind., Gary Pollard, Watson, Okla., Dennnis Pollard, Watson, Okla.; four brothers, Cleadus Pollard, Watson, Okla., Haskell Pollard, Broken Bow, Okla., Floyd Pollard,Rose Lake, Idaho, Tom Pollard, Watson, Okla.; three sisters, Mrs.Mable Smith, Watson, Okla., Mrs.Josephine Richardson, Wickes, Mrs. Evelyn Pogue, DeQueen; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dorothy B. Pollard, 60, of Octavia, Ok., died Tuesday in a Ft. Smith hospital. She was born March 13, 1925 at Watson, Ok.
Funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Sulphur Springs Missionary Baptist Church at Watson with Bro. Glen McClung officiating. Interment was in the Watson Cemetery under the direction of Geyer-Quillin Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Raymond Pickens, Lonnie Huff, Buck Phillips, Ronnnie Johnson, Reggie Hamby, and Mark Smith.
Mrs. Pollard was the daughter of the late Fred McCuan and the late Mrs. Ola Johnson McCuan and was united in marriage to Elmer Pollard August 23, 1943 at Mena. She made her home in the Watson and Octavia community most of her life and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors are husband, Elmer Pollard, Octavia, Ok.; two sons, Dwain Pollard, Broken Bow, Ok,.Bud Pollard, Octavia, Ok.; three daughters, Mrs. Jane Whisenhunt, Gillham, Ms. Sheila Pollard, Mena, Mrs. Sherry Nichols, Octavia, Ok.; one step-sister Mrs. Arie Majors, Stillwater, Ok.; six grandchildren. Cleadus William Pollard, 61, of Watson, Ok., died Saturday in the Community Hospital at DeQueen. He was born January 5, 1925 at Watson.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m.. Wednesday in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church at Watson, Ok., with Bro. Lewis Walker and Bro. Doyle Nations officiating. Interment was in the Watson Cemetery under the direction of Geyer-Quillen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Dennis Pollard, Steve Pollard, Lance Pollard, Bruce Pollard, Johnny Pogue, and Kevin Carlile.
Pollard was the son of the late Jim Pollard and the late Mrs. Ada Webb Pollard. He had made his home in Watson most of his life. He was a retired timber worker and a member of the Baptist faith.

Funeral service for Frank Porter, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Porter, Sr., of Watson, Okla., who died in the Baptist State hospital at Little Rock Friday night of head injuries received Friday morning in an automobile wreck on State Highway No. 4 west of Cove, was held Sunday afternoon under the large shade tree on the lawn of the Cecil Chapel church west of Vandervoort. The outside service as made necessary due to a croud of more than 1,000, according to an estimate by Olen R. Wood, a local funeral director, which could not be accommodated in the community church building.
In charge of the service was Rev. E. G. Winfield of Wickes, who was assisted by Rev. Mark Roberts and Rev. Arthur Atchley. Burial at the Cecil Chapel cemetery was directed by the Beasley-Wood Funeral home.
The pallbearers were A. B. Cartwright, Jr., Dale Plunkett, Hermon Johnson, Freddie Smith, Frederick Mayabb, and Marcelle Dunagan.
Mr. Porter was born Sept. 18, 1927 at Cove, where he received his grammar and high school education. He enlisted in the U. S. Merchant Marine in 1945 at San Francisco, Calif., and at the time of his death, was home on furlough from the port of Galveston, Texas. Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Veston C. Plunkett, Cove; two brothers, Glenn and Jerry Porter, Watson, Okla.; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Wilson, Wickes, Ark. Contributed by Carmiel Aldred |
