| 4/25/2009Dorothy Jeanne Fair Umsted., age 84, was born October 6th, 1924 in Hatfield, AR, passed on from this life on April 25, 2009 in Fort Smith, Ar.
She was born to the late J.N. and Fannie Morris Fair. She met and married the love of her life, Jess Umsted, on August 3rd, 1940. She purchased a small grocery store in Smithville in 1964, where she loved visiting with her friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jess Umsted; mother and father, J.N. and Fannie Fair; and sister, Mary Blake.
She is survived by daughter, Shirley Scott and husband, Glenn of Okmulgee, OK; grandson, Keith Scott and wife Connie of Morris, OK; grand-daughter, Kim Johnson and husband Kip of Morris, OK; great-grandchildren, Pete Ross, Kurtis Scott, Kepv Johnson, Niki Harvey, Jessi Ross, Devin Rowland, and Kloe Johnson; great-great grandchildren, Cayden Harvey, Ethan Rowland, Lexi Harvey, and Jaxon Rowland; also surviving Dorothy was Neil Charlton, and many other friends including her special caretakers, Randy, Edna, Sharon, Loretta,Francis and Shirley.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 10:00a.m. at the Smithville School Gymnasium with Brother Raymond Johnson, Reverend Robert Umsted, and Neil Charlton officiating. Interment followed at the Smithville Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Glenn Scott, Keith Scott, Kurtis Scott, Pete Ross , Neil Charlton, and Kip Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Rowan, David Finley, Anthony Loving, Dustin Rowland, Jeremy Harvey, Ray Wylie, and Harold Orgeron. Contributed by Carmiel Alred |

| 2/16/2009 | Jesse Eugene Umsted, age 88, of Smithville, OK, passed on from this life on Monday, February 16, 2009, at his home.
He was born on June 1, 1920 in Tuska, Ok to Gus and Pearl (Stevens) Umsted. He and the love of his life, Dorothy Jeanne (Fair) Umsted, eloped and married on August 3, 1940 in the courthouse at Atoka, OK. He served in the United States Army during World War II. After his duty and tour overseas, he came back to Smithville, where he started his career as a cattle rancher and later worked and retired from the State of Oklahoma Forestry Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Pearl Umsted; one brother, Earl Umsted; three sisters, Lucille Blackburn, Edna Turnbull, and Verna Mayo.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Jeanne Umsted, of Smithville, OK; daughter, Shirley and husband, Glenn Scott of Morris, Ok; grandchildren, Keith and wife, Connie Scott, of Morris, Ok, and Kim and husband, Kip Johnson of Morris, OK; great-grandchildren, Pete Ross, Jessi Ross, Devin and husband Dustin Rowland, Kurtis Scott, Kepv Johnson, Kloe Johnson, all of Morris, Ok, and Niki and husband Jeremy Harvey of Okay, OK; great-great grandchildren, Ethan and Jaxon Rowland and Cayden and Lexi Harvey; and a host of special nephews and nieces, caregivers, and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at the Smithville High School gymnasium with interment following at Smithville Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. | Unknown Date | John L. Webb, 73, of Smithville., died Thursday, Oct. 31, in a Ft. Smith hospital. He was born August 15, 1918, in Smithville.
Funeral services were held at the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, with Bro. Glenn Reed officiating. Interment was in Watson Cemetery under of Geyer-Quillin Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Buck Phillips, Ronnie Johnson, Harvey Pollard, David Toon, Ted Huff, and Bud Pollard.
Webb was the son of the late John Robert Rowell and the late Mrs.Ida Boner Rowell and was united in marriage to Ms. Ruby Rainey in Reno, Nev., on June 6, 1964. He had made his home in Smithville for the last 16 years, was retired from the Kizer-Gipsun of California,and in the Sheet Rock Division.
Survivors are wife, Mrs. Ruby Webb, Smithville; seven children, Danny and Phyllis Martin, Kenny and Ellen Martin and John and Cindy Webb, all of Smithville, Sandra and Arlie Pollard, Couer D'Alene, Idaho, Teresa and David Fowler, Smithville, Barbara Hill, Glendale, Wash., Carl Webb, San Jose, Calif; one sister, Mrs. Madge Roberts, Broken Bow, Okla.; six grandchildren. | 9/21/2009 | Geneva Weaver, 86, of Smithville, Oklahoma passed away September 21, 2009 at Rich Mountain Nursing Home in Mena, Arkansas. She was born October 19, 1922 in Smithville, Oklahoma.
She was a member of the Smithville Baptist Church and also attended Smithville Free Holiness Church. Ms. Weaver began teaching around 16 years of age in Hatfield, Arkansas. While teaching in the communities of Buffalo and Nana Chito she obtained her Masters of Education degree. she taught in Smithville from 1960 to her retirement in 1984.
Geneva enjoyed family gathering, singing, travelling, entertaining friends and school functions. She devoted her life to her students.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Jacob and Flora Ann Dover Weaver, four brothers and 3 sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Pauline Hensley of Smithville and several nieces and nephews.
Sevices will be Thursday, September24, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Smithville Assembly of God with Brother Ron Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in the Six Mile Cemetery in Hatfield, Arkansas under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
The family received friends on Wednesday, September 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lee White, 99, of Broken Bow, were held in Octavia Baptist Church Wednesday, June 15. Officiating minister was Rev. Thomason, pastor of the Octavia church, and the Rev. Emmett Sherman, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hatton, Ark.
Mrs. White who died June 13, was born April 20, 1878, in Langley., Ark., and had resided in McCurtain County 60 years. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Vandervoort, Ar.
Survivors include one son, Idus C. White of Octavia; two daughters, Bertha Nations of Parron, Ark., and grace Wilson of Broken Bow; one brother, Walter Forrester of Langley, and one sister, Necy Smerall of Amity, Ark; 16 grandchildrenand 24 great -grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

| 1/3/2001 | Melvin Calvin Williams, age 74, of Honobia, OK, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2001, in Antlers.
Mr. Williams was born March 9, 1926, in Honobia, OK, to the late Samuel S. Williams and the late Rosa L. Hogan Williams. He was united in marriage on November 9, 1946, in Mena, AR, to Lorene Mowdy. He was a retired construction worker and a retired cattle rancher. Mr. williams was a charter member of the Smithville Assembly of God Church and a member of the Heavener Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include: wife, Lorene Mowdy Williams of Honobia, OK; sons, Gene and his wife, Treasa Williams of Poteau, OK, Keith and his wife, Cathy Williams of Poteau, OK and Monty and his wife, Bevona Williams of Mena, AR; daughters, Glenda and her husband, David Brown of Honobia, OK, and Kathy Scarberry of Honobia, OK; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 13 brothers and sister.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 6, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Smithville Assembly of god Church with Reverend Conley Wright, Reverend Keith Williams and Reverend Jeff Mattox officiating. Burial followed in the Ludlow Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Stan Mourton, Davy Warren, Clay Barnes, Glendon Williams, Amber Scarberry, Aaron Williams and Joshua Williams.
